2011 Exploration Program

Buru had significant exploration success in 2011, making the first new field onshore oil discovery in Western Australia in 10 years at Ungani-1ST1, which was successfully appraised by the Ungani-2 well, and identifying a significant and potentially very extensive tight gas accumulation at Valhalla-2. Both of these discoveries will be appraised during 2012.

Pictor East-1 also confirmed a hydrocarbon column in the Nita Carbonates and is being considered for appraisal in 2012.

Geological and Geophysical Program

Buru also conducted a significant geological and geophysical program in 2011 which involved:

  • the acquisition of 185 square kilometers of new 3D seismic over the Yulleroo wet gas field to be used to site future appraisal wells and to further quantify the resource base of the field;
  • the acquisition of 467 kilometres of new 2D seismic to mature multiple leads in the Admiral Bay area and Broome Platform for potential drilling during 2012;
  • processing and interpretation of the 756 kilometres of new 2D seismic acquired during 2010; and
  • further evaluation of the very significant unconventional resource potential of the Canning Superbasin identified during 2010.
